Meanwhile the work on the replacement of 18-inch-dia sewerage line along Tipu Sulan Road also started. The 140-feet-long line had sunk due to rains and work on its replacement was started forthwith. It was expected that the replacement work would be completed by Tuesday night.

Orangi: All the offices of Orangi Town's union councils and its roundabouts will be decorated with national flags, buntings and colorful lights to celebrate the Independence Day in a befitting manner. This was stated at a meeting presided over by Orangi Town Nazim Abdul Haq in which arrangements for Independence Day were finalized.

It decided that all the preparations, including decoration of the area from the town's central office to Chowrangi No 5 would be completed by Aug 13.

The meeting was informed that a float highlighting the ongoing development works in the town had also been prepared and which would be moving from one UC of the town to another filling the air with the sound of catchy national songs.

On Aug 14 a flag hoisting ceremony will be held in which the town nazim will pull the rope to mount the national flag on a pole and afterwards give away sweets and fruits to the patients in the town's hospitals.

A special programme will also be arranged in which students will deliver speeches to highlight the sacrifices of our national heroes for the attainment of an independent state. National songs and tableaux will also be performed on the occasion.—PPI/APP
