Forward bloc urges fair polls in party

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, Aug 6: Members of the PML forward bloc staged a demonstration against Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Mohammad Yousuf and demanded that party elections be held in a transparent manner to elect new office-bearers of the provincial chapter.

Addressing the protestors outside the press club, the bloc’s provincial president Noor Khan Tareen said that they had full confidence in President Pervez Musharraf and the central leadership of the party.

He alleged that the provincial president of the party, Jam Yousuf, was not allowing party workers to enter the chief minister secretariat while office-bearers of district-level chapters had been selected by so-called election committee instead of their election by party members.

Mr Tareen alleged that local newspapers were being pressurised by the government not to publish news of the forward bloc, adding that such act was against freedom of press.

He said the bloc would not accept ‘so-called’ election of Jam Yousuf as provincial president of the party.
