Van accident: bodies of 3 children, two others found

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Aug 6: Res-cuers on Sunday recovered bodies of three children who were among the five drowned in a Nullah after their pick-up van was swept away by raging rainwater near Chontra on Friday.

The bodies recovered have been identified as those of Tahira Batool age between 10-12 years, Sehrish Bibi (12) and Mohammad Ghazal (6).

The rescuers are still making efforts to trace the bodies of Sumaira Akhtar, 12, and Omer Farooq, 4.

The overcrowded van driven by Mohammad Gul was heading towards Rawat when the driver missed out a bridge due to heavy downpour and the vehicle plunged into gushing water, resulting in the death of eight women and one child. Five other children went missing.

The last Friday’s torrential rain had claimed lives of at least 24 people in Rawalpindi and Islamabad and caused severe damage to public property and civic infrastructure.
