Rain, floods flatten AJK shelters

By Our Staff Correspondent

MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 5: Rains flattened dozens of houses and temporary shelters in different areas of Azad Kashmir on Saturday and in a house collapse incident in district Poonch eight people were injured, police and residents said.

The victims — a couple, their six children — were admitted to the Combined Military Hospital Rawalakot.

There was no other report of casualties but an official said rains and hill torrents were posing serious threat to the residents of hilly area.

The Neelum Valley Road was still blocked but blocked roads were being cleared, the official said.

On Friday, a man and a woman were killed and their two family members were injured in district Poonch after the roof of their house caved in, he said.

However, local newspapers reported on Saturday that three other people were also killed in rain-related incidents.
