KARACHI, Aug 5: The works and services department of city government on Saturday started work to fill pot holes and ditches on 28 roads of the city, as per directives of Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal.
A city government press release stated that two dumpers each and other machinery along with manpower had been provided to each town. The refilling work would be completed by Monday.
In the first phase of repairing work, ditches on 28 roads would be refilled so that the vehicular flow could be continued, while later these roads would be patched soon after the monsoon was over.
The nazim has also directed the city government to ask town administration about their requirements in this regard.
NEW KARACHI: New Karachi Town Nazim Muhammad Hanif Soorti on Saturday visited Union Council No 12 and warned that no leniency would be tolerated regarding pumping out rainwater accumulated on roads and streets.
He said that some people blocked drains and nullahs due to encroachments. He said that these encroachments were causing hurdles in way of prompt de-watering efforts. He directed the administration to continue and expedite the cleaning work of sewerage lines. He asked them to ensure disposal of filth and garbage from the link roads, inner lanes and other areas.
UC Nazim Syed Zakir Hussein, Naib Nazim Abdul Waheed, SE (water and sewerage) Saleem Siddiqui, TO (Infrastructure) Muhammad Raza, TO (administration work) Syed Tasneem Ahmed, DTO (cleaning) Syed Sarwer Ali were present.
SHAH FAISAL TOWN: Shah Faisal Town Nazim Muhammad Imran on Saturday cancelled leaves of water and sewerage board staff, ordered conversion of union council offices into emergency centres and directed officials to be on high alert.
He also issued directives for making the central control room functional round-the-clock so that complaints of citizens could be promptly redressed. He also constituted a vigilance committee comprising of town officers and told them to take steps to facilitate the masses and solve their rain-related issues.
JAMSHED TOWN: Jamshed Town Nazim Muhammad Arif Ajakia inspected main roads of his town and directed the officials concerned to immediately fill the dug-up roads and ditches developed after recent rains.
He said: “The process of draining out stagnant water has been continued by the staff and it will continue till its completion.” He strictly ordered the water and sewerage board that sewerage problems should be resolved at the earliest. —PPI
