KARACHI: Journalist’s wife hurt, robbed

KARACHI, Aug 4: Wife of a senior journalist was injured while trying to resist a robbery attempt at the gate of the Karachi Press Club on Friday.

Mr Iqbal Jaffari and his wife Rehana Iqbal Jaffari were alighting from a cab at KPC gate on Friday noon when two persons on a motorcycle intercepted them, and tried to snatch the purse of Mrs Jaffari. As she tried to resist, one of the robbers hit her in the head with his pistol butt and taking away the purse.

The lady was taken to a nearby private hospital where she received stitches for the head injury.

VEHICLES/PHONES: Bandits took away at least 21 vehicles, including 10 cars and 11 motorcycles, and 30 mobile phones in different areas on Friday.

Police sources said that two cars and two motorcycles were reported snatched at gunpoint and eight cars and nine motorcycles were stolen. A total of 13 cellphones were snatched at gunpoint and 15 were stolen while two phones sets were reported missing in different areas

HOAX CALL: Two multi-storey buildings, Sidco Avenue and Lakson Square, were evacuated on Friday afternoon by the law enforcement agencies following a call warning that a bomb has been placed there.

However, the call proved a hoax after several hours of search by the bomb disposal squad.
