KARACHI: Pagara’s advice to Muttahida

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 3: Pakistan Muslim League (Functional) chief Pir Pagara has advised the Muttahida Qaumi Movement not to annoy others by demanding more share in the government as they were already getting more than their due share.

Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, he reminded that at the time of partition the total population of Mohajirs used to be seven per cent in both wings East and West Pakistan. But, he said, after separation of its eastern wing, their strength was reduced to no more than four per cent, including those who live in Punjab and Bahawalpur.

However, their maximum share in Sindh could be four per cent, but in present government their share was more than double at the cost of population in the interior who were in trouble.

“Sindh’s total share in the government was only 19 per cent, then who would give Mohajirs more than 50 per cent.” He said this ground reality should not be construed as anti-Mohajir instance.

He said if MQM did not change its attitude, all Sindhis would unite and MQM’s place would be on opposition benches.

Pir Pagara dispelled the impression of his siding with Arbab Rahim, saying he was with President Gen Musharraf and the army and as they were patronizing Arbab, he was also with him.

When asked if President Musharraf was losing control over the state apparatus, Pir Pagara countered the question if any chief of the army staff could become weak?

In reply to a question, he said there was no link between no-confidence move by the opposition against Prime Minister and the Sindh crisis.

To another question, Pir Pagara said eventually Karachi would be given in the federal control. “There would be no negative impact on Sindh from its separation.

When his attention was drawn towards deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi, Pir Pagara said he sees the time was approaching for family planning the way Brig Ziaul Haq carried out in Jordan.
