KARACHI, Aug 2: The executive council of the Pakistan People’s Party, Sindh chapter, has expressed grave concern over the widespread damage caused by the monsoon rains in the entire province, particularly in this port city, and put the onus on the City District Government of Karachi accusing it of being incompetent and negligent.
A resolution adopted at the meeting, chaired by the PPP Sindh chief Syed Qaim Ali Shah, noted that in spite of having received early warning, the CDGK did not make necessary arrangements. The appeared to be criminal negligence resorted to at a time when the people were already suffering from almost perpetual power breakdowns and loadshedding and the numerous troubles caused by the haphazard development work undertaken by the city government.
It castigated the CDGK for claiming that because of its development works, difficulties of the people had been reduced. The meeting also expressed concern over the rain-related casualties and demanded Rs0.5m compensation for each of the fatalities.
The meeting expressed the view that inexperienced management of the KESC was responsible for the power crisis and demanded that the flawed privatisation of the utility be reversed. It also demanded an impartial inquiry into the KESC affair.
It also demanded investigation into the stock market scam and demanded punitive action against those involved in it.
The meeting condemned the continuing Israeli aggression against Lebanon in which innocent civilian men, women and children were being killed every day.
Expressing grave concern over the role of the UN and the US in the Middle East crisis, the meeting called upon the world body to play a pro-active role along with the OIC in bringing an immediate end to Israeli brutalities and aggression.
