Govt urged to build swiming pools

By A Sports Correspondent

ISLAMABAD, Aug 1: The Pakistan Swimming Federation has demanded from the government to construct swimming pools in all major cities of the country to promote the game at the grassroots level.

Speaking at a press conference, secretary of the PSF Majid Wasim and president of the women wing of the federation Veena Masood said the sport was on the decline due to lack of facilities.

They feared that shortage of the pools would waste young talent.

"The PSF and its women wing are willing to organise courses to train coaches about latest swimming techniques and it is up to the government to provide pool facilities," Veena said while narrating her objective.

She continued: "The government should provide us adequate funds and support to build swimming infrastructure if they want us to win medals in international competitions."
