LAHORE, Aug 1: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has ordered provision of hepatitis laboratory test facility at all the district headquarters in the province. The governor issued the orders while presiding over a meeting held here on Tuesday to review the progress of work on various public welfare projects and implementation of his directives by federal government departments in Toba Tek Singh district during the past two months.

He said provision of test facilities was necessary to enable the patients to benefit from the financial assistance being offered by the Pakistan Baitul Maal for hepatitis treatment.

Progress of work on the projects being executed by Wapda, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, Pakistan Telecommuni-cation Corporation, Nadra, Zaraee Taraqqiati Bank, Pakistan Railways, and construction of Faisalabad Agriculture University sub-campus and new departments in the Government Degree College came under discussion during the meeting.

The governor was informed that postgraduate classes for English, mathematics, economics, physics and chemistry would be started at the college after completion of the new blocks. He was also informed that talks were in progress with the Pakistan Cricket Control Board for making the National Sports Stadium operational from October for first class cricket matches. The shops in the stadium would be auctioned on August 5.

AUSTRIAN VARSITIES: The governor appreciated the establishment of an engineering university of international standard in the provincial metropolis with Austrian technical assistance while talking to a delegation comprising Graz University of Technology head Dr Hartmut Kahlort, University of Leoben Rector Dr Wolfhard Wagscheider, Prof Gunter Grampp and Prof Muhammad Amin Janua of Technical Universirty of Vienna, which called on him.

He said the government had established technology parks for linking the academicians from various engineering varsities with the industry.
