Problem of staff shortage in Fata being solved: Aurakzai


PESHAWAR, Aug 1: The NWFP Governor Lt-Gen (r) Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai has reiterated the government’s firm commitment to strengthen and enhance the service delivery system in Fata by providing maximum facilities to the tribesmen. He said new staff in education and health sector would soon be appointed.

He added that reasonable enhancement in the development outlay for Fata this year would certainly help achieve the targets in this regard.

Speaking during a presentation on Kurram Agency at Governor’s House here on Wednesday the governor urged the respective officials to ensure full and judicious utilisation of the budget allocations to facilitate the tribesmen.

The political agent briefed the governor on the over all law and order situation in the agency besides the development profile and other related matters.

The governor was informed that Rs 633 million were being spent in Kurram Agency on 105 development schemes during the current financial year. The highest allocation of Rs 178.33 million had been made for education sector, which is 28 per cent of the total budget allocation.

In communication sector Rs 117.867 would be spent on 25 development schemes. In education sector 501 educational institutions were working including 185 for girls. Since 2001-02, as many as 425 graduates had qualified from the agency colleges. In All Fata schemes the Kurram Agency has got the share of Rs 197.598 million. He however urged the officials to take serious notice of the teachers’ absenteeism and directed effective monitoring to improve the situation.

The governor further directed that possibility of providing hostel facilities to the students of far-flung areas should also be explored. On a point the governor directed to prepare a database about flood affected areas of the agency.

Attending another presentation on the fiber optic activities in Fata, the governor said that Fata must be brought at par with other parts of the country in the provision of modern means of communication.

The ratio of provision of such facilities should be proportionate on the basis of the area and population, he stressed. He said that extension of finre optic facility to Fata would facilitate the tribesmen to make use of this modern technology in the best possible way.

During presentation the governor was informed that five towns in Fata have so far been linked through optic fibre including Bara, Jamrud,Khar,Mir Ali and Miranshah. Work on extension of the facilities to seven other tribal areas were in progress.—PPI
