Stress laid on science, technology education
PESHAWAR, Aug 1: The Ninth Symposium on Analytical and Environmental Chemistry jointly organised by the Institute of Chemical Sciences, University of Peshawar, and National Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, held at the Bara Gali Summer Campus, concluded on Tuesday.
The acting vice-chancellor and dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Peshawar, Professor Ahmad Ali, attended the inaugural ceremony while the vice-chancellor of Hazara University, Professor Dr Ihsan Ali, was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony of the three-day international symposium.
Professor Ahmad Ali appreciated the arrangements made for the conference and said healthy academic activities play a pivotal role to earn a good name for the university.
Moreover, he added, no nation can progress without sufficient scientific and technological education, adding that special attention is being given to these disciplines to meet the challenges of the present era.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the director, Institute of Chemical Sciences, University of Peshawar, and the chief organiser of the conference, Professor Dr Rasul Jan, highlighted the aims, objectives and importance of analytical chemistry and the role it played in resolving environmental problems.
Prof Dr Ihsan Ali, while concluding the conference, said it was a great effort that the inhabitants of the two great civilizations like Gandhara and Indus have joined hands to organise this conference.
The conference was attended by more than 150 scientists and researchers from all over the country and some delegates from Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Romania.
Eminent scientists Dr Shafiqul Alam from Bangladesh and Dr Gondal from Saudi Arabia delivered extensive lectures while Dr Alexandra Csvadri from Romania delivered her lecture on Kinetic Methods in Analytical Chemistry.
Some 50 original research papers were presented orally by scientists and 103 posters were displayed in the conference.—APP
