TANK, Aug 1: The government is spending Rs11.6 million in the South Waziristan Agency during the current fiscal year for the uplift of agriculture sector. Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Agriculture Assistant Director Iqbal Hussain said that the government was committed to the promotion of agriculture and was working for the welfare of the farmers’ community in the tribal area.

He said that a farm services centre at a cost of Rs5.8 million would be established at Zeri Noor which would enable farmers to meet their requirements with latest farming technology.

He said that the centre would help protect soil erosion and besides playing significant role in turning almost 1,100 acres of barren land into cultivated area.

The agriculture official said that the department would also set up a fruit nursery at Ladha.—APP
