KARACHI: PPP slams coalition government

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 1: Syed Qaim Ali Shah, president Pakistan Peoples Party, Sindh, has condemned the tug-of-war between the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and other components of the ruling coalition in the province and alleged that it was not for the people but for personal interests.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah said in the prevailing circumstances, the chief minister should tender his resignation as he had no constitutional, legal and moral right to remain in power any more.

He said breakdown of the civic infrastructure in the rains and failure to maintain law and order was an ample proof of the coalition government’s incompetence and failure to address the problems being failed.

At a news conference on Tuesday, Mr Shah claimed that tens of thousands of acres of revenue land was the bone of contention. He alleged that on the one hand chief minister Dr Arbab Rahim wanted to exercise control over land while the MQM was pressuring for its control.

He said both Arbab and MQM were fighting for distribution of jobs quota in education and other departments as the Muttahida wanted more than 50 per cent share in job.

He said despite the tall claims both the chief minister and his allies could not restore peace in the province and government has failed to take stand on Kalabagh Dam, fair distribution of water and natural resources, therefore it has no right to continue in office.

Secretary general of PPP Sindh Nafees Siddiqui praised the foresightedness of MMA and ARD leaders, who in the prevailing situation had put aside all things and had united for restoration of democracy.

Meanwhile, leader of the opposition in Sindh Assembly Nisarh Khuhro said on Tuesday that monsoon rains were playing havoc with lives of citizens in rural as well as urban Sindh, but the coalition partners in the provincial government were engaged in a tug-of-war for more power, adds PPI.
