ISLAMABAD, Aug 1: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has issued draft rules to facilitate taxpayers to file returns and documents electronically. CBR spokesman Habib Fakhrudin in a statement issued on Tuesday said the board was in the process of finalising the rules to provide for the appointment of e-intermediaries and the procedure to be followed by them.

A draft of these rules is being circulated for the comments and proposals from the taxpayers, consultants and the general public. The draft has also been placed on CBR website.

He said the CBR has already introduced e-filing of returns and other specified documents, enabling the taxpayers to file returns and documents through worldwide web or email without having to visit tax office or the banks.

He said the Sales Tax Act 1990 had been amended through the Finance Act 2006 to provide that the taxpayers can file such documents through e-intermediaries.
