KARACHI: Water level rises in Hub Dam

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 30: Water level in Hub dam increased on Sunday from 282.9 to 283.3 RL (Reservoir Level) in the wake of rains on Sunday.

According to Wapda’s resident engineer, Inamullah Khan, water level in the dam is likely to go further up on Monday as the dam’s catchment area, from Pub to Kirthar mountain range, is still receiving rains.

Water supply to both the city and Lasbella from Hub dam was curtailed a couple of months back after water level in the dam started receding owing to dry monsoon.

The city was, at present, getting 50 mgd from the dam as against its quota of 100 mgd while Lasbella was being supplied 30 mgd.

The KWSB has been diverting over 50 mgd from the recently commissioned K-3 project to the localities hooked to the Hub source.

The localities which are hooked to the Hub source include sprawling townships of Orangi, Baldia, Surjani, North Karachi, Shershah, SITE (both residential and industrial areas), Manghopir and Qasba.

Water supply from the Hub dam to both Karachi and Lasbela is suspended when it touches its dead level of 276.25 RL.
