HYDERABAD, July 28: Lea-ders of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal said on Friday that nuclear weapons of the country had been captured by the US. They were addressing a big public meeting on the Station road here on Friday night.
MMA president Qazi Hussain Ahmed said that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons were no more in the hands of rulers but they were talking nuclear war in response to threats by India.
He accused President Gen Pervez Musharraf of reneging from its promise made in his televised address to the nation by not stepping down as the chief of army staff after December 2004.
He said that it was unconstitutional that one man should hold offices of president and the chief of army staff.
He said that the army and other national institutions had become controversial.
He blamed the government for creating a particular class of rich generals, bureaucrats, privileged and capitalists.
He said that the class was purchasing palaces abroad through wealth looted by them in the country whereas 50 per cent of people continued to live below the poverty line.
He said that when ever the army took over the reins of the country, the Constitution became the first casualty while the generals violated their oath.
He said that Pervez Musharraf and his junta were patronising mafias which had grabbed national resources.
He said that the army had been pitted against their own brethren in tribal areas in order to teach them enlightened moderation.
He said that under a conspiracy obscenity and vulgarity were being promoted on TV channels by holding mixed groups discussions of men and women.
Lambasting the US for backing Israel in its war against Lebanon, Qazi Hussain said that Lebanon had been completely destroyed while resolution for a ceasefire in Security Council had been vetoed by the US which had allowed Israel to achieve its target smoothly.
MMA secretary-general Maulana Fazal ur Rehman demanded that the government should reconstitute the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) because it did not have representation of genuine Ulema from different sects.
“The MMA will not allow the CII to make these recommendations disputed”, he said.
He said that the government had raised the issue to divide the opposition because the MMA and the PPP had divergent views on the matter.
He said that those people had been inducted as members of the CII who were not accepted even among their own sects but they were acceptable to secular minded class.
Condemning Israeli attacks on Lebanon, the Maulana said that if Islamic countries were reluctant to resist Israel then Mujahideen should be allowed to wage jihad against Israel in Lebanon.
“Israel is a poodle of the US and it was trying to spread war in the Islamic world but the MMA believes that war is not solution”, he said.
He came hard on the country’s foreign policy while referring to statement of Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri in the wake of Mumbai train blasts.
He said that such statement was tantamount to putting the country into a great trouble.
He said that whenever the army ruled the country it weakened civilian institutions though it had no such political role.
“The general perhaps never ever felt that weakening of civilian institutions will weaken the country’s foundation,” he said.
He said that if the army continued to be part of the National Security Council it would become a party in important issues despite the fact that it has to perform its professional duty.
