KARACHI, July 27: Trailing 17-24 at half time, Punjab Whites bounced back to topple defending champions Wapda 46-44 in extra time to win the final of the National Women Basketball Championship at NSTCC on Thursday. The two teams were tied 44-44 at the end of regulation time.

Wapda dominated the first session by penetrating the opponent’s territory with their star player Laila Kulsoom grabbing most of the scoring opportunities. Though she top scored with 20 points but that could not save her team from defeat. She was ably assisted by Hina Chaudhry who scored 14 points.

Punjab Whites struck on resumption by making good use of scoring abilities of Beenish Amin and Sehrish Nawaz as the two sides fought neck and neck battle.

The match was extended to extra time after both teams failed to settle the issue in stipulated time. Beenish Amin’s two decisive points paved the way for Punjab Whites to emerge new champions. Beenish and Sehrish were outstanding for winners scoring 13 points apiece while Romana Amjad scored 7.
