IAAF ratifies Powell’s latest 100 mark

MONTE CARLO (Monaco), July 27: Asafa Powell's latest 100-meter world record and Meseret Defar's 5,000-meter mark were ratified Thursday by the International Association of Athletics Federations.

The Jamaican sprinter equaled the 100-meter record he shares with Justin Gatlin, running 9.77 seconds at Gateshead, England, on June 11. Powell first set the mark in Athens, Greece, in June 2005. Gatlin tied the record in Doha, Qatar, on May 12.—AP
