PESHAWAR, July 27: Eleven teachers of the Peshawar University are awaiting confirmation of their promotion to the post of professor despite completing the year-long probation period in May.

“The probation period is over and I have still not received the confirmation letter,” one of the affected teachers told Dawn’s Bureau.

“They will be on probation for a period of one year with effect from 14-5-2005,” a notification issued last year said. The teachers said normally the confirmation letter was received within one week after completion of the probation period. The university syndicate, on the recommendation of the selection board in a meeting held on May 14, 2005, had approved appointment of the 11 teachers as professors.

On the recommendations of the academic council of the University of Peshawar, the syndicate, in its meeting held on 17th and 26th June, reserved two seats (one morning and one evening) for working journalists, who had three years’ experience, in the department of journalism and Mass Communication.
