KARACHI: Tribunal examines MLO

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 26: The Nishtar Park blast inquiry tribunal comprising Justice Rahmat Hussain Jafferi of the Sindh High Court examined the medico-legal officer (MLO) of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital on Wednesday.

The examination of Dr Zafarul Haq Saiyal, MLO of the Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre, was again put off for completion of entries in his medico-legal report.

Dr Pradeep Kumar carried out medico-legal examination of three of the injured casualties of the blast at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital before his transfer to the JPMC, where he checked the healed injuries of Maulana Altaf Qadri, the complainant in the blast case, on July 1 at the request of the investigation officer.

One of the three inured, Usman Qadri, Hafiz Mohammad Yaseen and Irshad Khan, at Abbasi Shaheed, the MLO said, had blackened wounds. Asked by the tribunal what causes blackening of wounds, the MLO said when the human body is hit by a hot projectile, the skin is blackened. It is not necessarily caused as a direct impact of explosion but may result from hot pellets discharged by the explosive device. The other injured had normal lacerated or punctured wounds caused by hard and blunt objects. All three were discharged after treatment.

Jamaat Ahle Sunnat leader Maulana Altaf Qadri’s injuries had already healed by the time the MLO examined him on July 1 at the IO’s request.
