PESHAWAR, July 26: Flash flood played havoc in several areas of Charsadda district on Wednesday and inundated some 800 houses in Hajiabad locality, officials said.

Chief of the irrigation department’s hydrology division Abdul Wali Yousafzai told Dawn that water level in Jandi nullah near Charsadda town suddenly rose early in the morning, causing devastation in the Hajiabad locality.

He said that more than 800 kutcha houses had been affected but no casualty had been reported. He said that many houses had collapsed.

A handout said that about 1,600 families had been displaced by the flood.

The hydrology division recorded flow of 12,000 cusecs in Jandi nullah on Wednesday morning, which reduced to 9,800 cusecs in the evening.

Officials said river Chitral was also in high flood, while other rivers were flowing normally.

Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani visited the flood-hit areas, including Umarzai and Turangzai, and ordered immediate relief measures for rehabilitation of the affected people.
