Defence impregnable, says president

KARACHI, July 25: President Pervez Musharraf said on Tuesday that the country’s defence was impregnable and nobody should even dare think of taking any punitive action against Pakistan.

He was speaking at the inauguration of $14 million MAPAK Edible Oil Refinery being set up with Malaysian collaboration at Port Qasim.

“Nobody should be under any illusion or cast an evil eye at us or talk of punitive action,” he said referring to reports in media in this regard.

President Musharraf said peace was achieved through strength and not by weakness. Referring to the Israeli attack on Lebanon, he said it was done because of weakness.

He said security was a necessity and Pakistan would ensure it at every cost. He said that expenditure on defence should not be seen in absolute terms but in relation to GDP.

President noted that defence expenditure has decreased considerably but country’s security has been strengthened.

He said Pakistan was totally against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and would continue to cooperate with all countries in this respect.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad, Chief Minster Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim and others were present on this occasion.—APP
