GUJRANWALA, July 25: More than 90 per cent blood banks are being run in the district without any registration without facilities of screening by qualified health officials.

Dr Shabbir Ahmad told Dawn that no blood bank could be run without a qualified pathologist under the law. The blood banks being run without registration were spreading hepatitis, diabetes, AIDS and other diseases, he added.

He said he had sent a detailed report to the Punjab government and health department recommending strict action against those blood banks.

He said the health department had set up blood banks at Wazirabad and Kamoki THQ and DHQ hospitals under the supervision of senior doctors. A blood bank would be established at Naushera Virkan THQ hospital soon, he added.

JUDICIAL REMAND: The anti-terrorism court No 1 sent two people who killed eight Ahmadis of Mandi Bahauddin on judicial remand on Tuesday.

Police arrested as Zafar Chaudhry and Akhtar Ali, the activists of a banned outfit a few days ago.

Meanwhile, the range DIG directed Mandi Bahauddin DPO to depute an officer of the rank of DSP to investigate the case.
