Swabi receives torrential rain

By Our Correspondent

SWAB, July 24: Most parts of the district on received torrential rains on Monday. Many low-lying areas were inundated, traffic came to a grinding halt and boundary walls of some houses and government buildings collapsed. Rainwater entered houses and other buildings.

The 170-foot boundary wall of the Civil Hospital Topi and walls of six houses in its vicinity collapsed.

Residents said that the hospital wall, which was constructed two years ago, blocked outflow of rainwater from the locality.

“This is the second collapse of boundary-wall of the hospital,” said a resident.

In the Gandaf area of Gadoon Amazai, rainwater entered shops in the main market and caused huge losses to shopkeepers and traders. A boundary wall near the first check-post of Tarbela dam collapsed while rainwater entered houses in the Tarbela Dam colony.

Traffic on Swabi-Jehangira Road was suspended for hours as rainwater remained on the road for several hours.
