KARACHI: Muttahida terms ban on teachers’ bodies illegal

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, July 24: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has condemned the chief minister’s decision to impose a ban on teachers’ associations in educational institutions and has termed it illegal and immoral.

Sources close to top party leaders on Monday said that the party felt that the decision not only violated fundamental rights but the manner in which it had been taken unilaterally also constituted a breach of the understanding reached on collective decision-making.

The MQM, they said, had appealed to the president and the prime minister to take urgent notice of the action which, according to them, was devoid of any moral or legal moorings, besides asking them to reverse the decision.

According to sources, the decision had infuriated the MQM’s top hierarchy as it bypassed the recommendations of the core committee that was constituted by the centre to resolve the differences between the MQM and the Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Rahim.
