KARACHI, July 24: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has urged Pakistan Railways to increase the frequency of trains to India via Munabao to facilitate people traveling from Sindh.
The demand was made by members of a party delegation who called on Divisional Superintendent Railways Nasir Zaidi here on Monday.
They said that at present, only 150 passengers could get seats in the Thar Express, causing problems for scores of visa, adding that the number of trains should be increased to two or three times a week.
The delegation, led by MQM’s Parliamentary Party leader in the Sindh Assembly Mohammad Hussain, pointed out that the immigration officials offered no help to people left behind because of the lack of seats on the Thar Express.
They said that people had to endure their stay out in the open, without drinking water or telephone.
They said that even people, who were lucky enough to get seats on the train, had to 10 to 12 hours for immigration and customs clearances, could not buy anything to eat or drink and were unable to inform their relatives about the delay.
The delegation included Syed Shakir Ali, Nishat Mohmmad Zia and Aslam Pervez.
