KARACHI, July 24: Brisk shipping activity was observed at the port where five ships carrying containers, edible oil, furnace oil and chemicals were berthed at QICT, MPT, FOTCO Oil Terminal and EVT during the last 24 hours, said a PQA press release on Monday.

Meanwhile, two more ships with sugar and chemicals also arrived at the outer anchorage.

Eight ships -- MSC Hailey, Hurst Point, El Tango, Alabanda, Cheery Galaxy, Mukhtarah, Anette Kosan and Hau Shan Hai -- are currently occupying berths to load and offload containers, sugar, canola seeds, edible oil, furnace oil, chemicals and coke.

A record cargo handling was achieved at the port on Sunday where a cargo volume of 0.106 million tons comprising 0.099 million tons imports and 0.007 million tons exports inclusive of containerized cargo carried in 1,150 containers (TEUs) was handled during the last 24 hours.

Hurst Point and MSC Hailey sailed out, while Alabanda, Hau Shan Hai and Anette Kosan are expected to sail on Monday. Nedlloyd Muscat, Sinar Botang, Dignity and Chemstar Eagle are expected to take berths on Monday.

Bulk cargo carrier Dustia Naree is due to arrive on Monday while Acx Plumeria and MT Warbah, with containers and diesel oil, are due to arrive on Tuesday.
