KARACHI, July 23: Defending champions Pakistan got off to a confident start in the World Junior Team squash championship with a straight games victory over South Africa at Palmerston North in New Zealand on Sunday.

According to the details available, Aamir Atlas put Pakistan ahead when he overcame Richard Collbern 9-2, 9-2, 9-1 while Yasir Butt made it 2-0 after crushing Rudi Willemse 9-1, 9-0, 9-0.

The second seeds registered their third win, when Farhan Mehboob quashed another South African Richard Dodd with a 9-6, 9-0, 9-2 score-line.

While Pakistan recorded an easy victory, it was the same case for top seeds Egyptians who crushed Hong Kong.

Malaysia, Canada, England, Germany, Netherlands and India were the other teams to win.

Results: Pakistan beat South Africa 3-0; Malaysia beat New Zealand 3-0; Canada beat Australia 2-1; England beat Switzerland 3-0; Germany beat US 3-0; Egypt beat Hong Kong 3-0; Netherlands beat Japan 3-0; India beat Zimbabwe 3-0.—Agencies
