LAHORE, July 23: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) president and Jamaat-i-Islami amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad on Sunday asked Muslim countries to quit the United Nations if it failed to stop Israeli aggression.
Addressing a meeting in Mansoora, he said that the United Nations and the Security Council had miserably failed in stopping Israeli aggression, both in Lebanon and the Palestine.
“The situation requires Muslim countries to quit the UN and convene an OIC meeting for taking practical steps to challenge the Israeli hegemony,” he said.
Qazi deplored the government’s `indifferent’ attitude towards the plight of the Palestinians and the Lebanese who had been left at the mercy of the Zionist enemy.
Talking about the domestic situation, he said that the MMA would observe Aug 14 as Yaum-i-Nijat (Day of Deliverance). He warned that no ban on this meeting would be tolerated.
He took exception to a proposal floated reportedly by some retired generals for starting a dialogue with the government instead of launching a movement against it. Terming it an attempt to sabotage the MMA movement, he said “we are already reaping the bitter fruit of a dialogue held earlier. General Musharraf had refused to honour his commitment made in the run-up to the 17th constitutional amendment. We will not be trapped again.”
Qazi apprehended that he might be assassinated or arrested during the anti-government drive but urged JI workers to continue the peaceful movement till its logical end.
He criticized Gen Musharraf for taking a `U-turn’ on the Kashmir issue, saying that the talks for a peaceful settlement could only yield results if New Delhi accepted the valley as a disputed territory.
