HYDERABAD, July 23: Activists of different political parties along with relatives of Ghulam Rasool Brohi, a labourer allegedly killed in a so-called police encounter in Karachi, blocked the Kotri railway crossing on Sunday.

The protesters pelted a Hyderabad-bound train with stones when it did not stop at the crossing, and blocked the road in the area for vehicular traffic.

They demanded arrest of officials of the Lyari Task Force, who had been booked in the murder case of Brohi.

Meanwhile, except for recording few statements of some witnesses, the Nawabshah police have not yet proceeded to Karachi to arrest officials accused of killing Brohi.

Brohi, resident of Chatha Goth, Hub, was allegedly killed in the Gadap area in a fake encounter staged by officials of the Lyari Task Force headed by SP Chaudhary Aslam.

On July 11, the LTF claimed that they had in the encounter gunned down notorious bandit Mashooq Brohi who carried head money of Rs2.5 million.

An inquiry team headed by additional IGP Tariq Jameel was formed by the PPO to confirm the identity of the deceased.

Siddiq, first cousin of Brohi, who was also picked up while they were returning from Sakrand, has not been released yet.

Ghulam Mustafa Brohi, who was also picked up in connection with the case, was released by the Karachi police on Saturday night. He said that Siddiq had been handed over to the DPO Jamshoro.
