KARACHI, July 23: As many as 73 people were deprived of their cars, motorbikes or cellphones at various places here on Sunday.
Police sources said that 34 vehicles, including eight cars and 26 motorcycles, were taken away in different areas. Two cars were snatched at gunpoint and six others were stolen. Of total 26 motorcycles, 19 were snatched at gunpoint and seven were stolen.
As many as 18 people were deprived of their mobile phones, cash and belongings. Twenty-one other people reported that their cellphones were stolen.
Meanwhile, the Garden police arrested a suspect, Mohammad Kashif alias Asif, and interrogated him. He led the police to recover two stolen vehicles (CR-2406, KD-2151), eleven genuine number plates of various vehicles, one CNG kit, tools for punching chassis numbers and a car tape recorder.
Kharadar police arrested three suspects Burhan Abbas, Tauseef, and Ameen and recovered seven stolen cellphones, two TT pistols and a dagger from them.
SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead by unknown persons at his house in Korangi on Sunday.
Police said that Javed Mumtaz, 30, sold his shop in sum of Rs1.8 million and distributed the amount equally among his brothers. He bought the house from his share and started living. Four armed men raided his house early in the morning and asked for Rs1.8 million. He explained to them that the amount had been spent. This led to exchange of hot words between them and the strangers, who shot at him and fled.
