KARACHI: JI contests Musharraf’s claims of progress

KARACHI, July 23: The rosy picture of the national economy and state of the country as presented by Gen Pervez Musharraf in his recent address to the nation is against the ground realities.

This was stated by the city chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui while speaking at a meeting of the office-bearers of the JI Shah Faisal Colony.

He said the analysis by neutral international experts had clearly suggested that Pakistani rulers had failed to fulfil their responsibilities. He alleged that the rulers were just hoodwinking masses through false claims and incorrect figures.

Dr Siddiqui said that the whole nation now was demanding the rulers to quit after handing over powers to the genuine representatives.

Highlighting the critical situation prevailing in the country, the JI leader said Pakistan was at the most critical crossroads “and if we did not come out for supremacy of law and the Constitution, the coming generations will not forgive us.”

He stressed on a massive campaign against the ‘dictators’ and said that the dictators were using parliament as a rubber stamp. People have also lost trust in judiciary, he added.

“People are not getting any relief, rather they are getting gifts of inflation, poverty, price-hike and mini-budgets.”

He said that the only beneficiaries of the present government’s policies were Q-Leaguers and other allies as many ministers had collected billions of rupees in sugar scam.

He claimed that the government had imported sugar at Rs14 per kg whereas it was being sold to people at Rs40 per kg. If the rulers remained clung to power, they will play more havoc with national economy as make masses to undergo further miseries, he said.

JI Shah Faisal Colony Amir Khalid Khan Arshi and Osama bin Shoaib also spoke.—PPI
