KARACHI: Businessmen asked to make ‘My Karachi’ event a success
KARACHI, July 23: Sindh Minister for Trade and Industry Mohammad Adil Siddiqui has urged the owners and operators of industries, business organisations and financial institutions to extend their maximum cooperation in making the ‘My Karachi’ exhibition a resounding success.
The exhibition will play an effective role in highlighting the city’s industrial, trade and cultural significance at international level, he said while addressing a meeting held here on Sunday to review arrangements for holding the exhibition.
The event, being held at the Expo Centre from July 29 to 31, has been organised jointly by the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and provincial government.
Trade and Industry Secretary Nasir Hayat, KCCI President Haroon Farooqui, Sessi Commissioner Rasool Buksh Phulpoto and senior officers attended the meeting.
Industry Minister Adil Siddiqui directed the officials concerned to make foolproof arrangements for the exhibition and provide every possible facility to the foreign delegates participating in the event.
He hoped that the exhibition would go a long way in attracting foreign investment and casting a positive impact on the national economy.
Mr Farooqui informed the meeting that delegates from many countries, including Indonesia, Bangladesh and UAE, were participating in the three-day exhibition.
More than 200 stalls are being set up at the exhibition to which entry will be free. It is hoped that the event would be visited by about 0.55 million people. Products of branded companies would be available at discount prices at the exhibition where recreational facilities for children and a large number of stalls of eatables have been arranged.
Separately, in a statement, Mr Adil Siddiqui described Karachi ‘the most attractive and safe place of the region for investment’, saying that the government had undertaken to provide cent per cent protection to foreign investment in the city.
“This is the reason that countries like US, China, Germany, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and UAE are preferring to invest here,” said the minister said in the statement he made after arriving here along with Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad from their visit to different countries, including the UAE.
Mr Siddiqui said that he and the governor held detailed discussions with investors in the Middle East regarding bilateral trade and making investment here in different sectors. He hoped for an encouraging outcome of the efforts.
“We have invited foreign investors to visit the city to ascertain the ground reality, which negates the bad impression about the situation and atmosphere here. They will see that the city is equipped with modern facilities and offers the same safety to their investment that offers any other city of the world,” he said.
The multibillion dollar investment in the city within the past few years has proved that Karachi is the industrial and economic hub of Asia, Adil Siddiqui said.—APP
