Horse-racing: Stormy Kiss smart enough to outshine rivals today

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, July 22: Three-year-old dark bay filly, Stormy Kiss, have to come up with her best in order to overcome her opponents and land the feature event in the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

She has an impressive track record with four wins on the trot under her belt and starts as our day’s favourite. Eight runners are left in contention for the honours after scratching and acceptance in the feature event. Also in the running will be Sea Wave and Gullu’s Government.

A card of seven races, all going over a sprinting distance of five furlongs, has been drawn for the day. The first race begins at 2.pm.

Mare Taneez who had to be content with second position twice in previous outings should make amends by grabbing the opener. She is likely to be chased by Kinjher and Fizza in the shortest field of seven contestants.

If all goes well, six-year-old dark bay horse, King Of The Field should claim the next race.

He was denied hat trick by finishing off the board on July 9 and again had a poor run in the last meeting.

He should be followed by Tom Cruise and Jan-e-Mun for the places.

If allowed to run on merit, bay mare Silent Love should cross the finishing post ahead of other contenders.

Her likely challengers are Sweet Grandy and Raka Poshi.

Drawn in a pack of 13 runners, three-year-old bay filly Annaba is fancied to make it two in a row.

She had a facile five lengths win with Tariq Baran in the saddle by edging out favourite Queen Of Mirwa in her last appearance.

Mare Princess Ridda enjoys an edge over others and tipped to repeat her winning feat. She had a brilliant run with M. Nasir astride in the last outing.

However, filly Miss Milee can upset the applecart. If tried by connections after two successive failures, filly Abhi Abhi is again fancied to atone for her poor showing.

Following is the field and our selection.
