NEW YORK, July 21: A Pakistani convicted of helping Al Qaeda was sentenced here on Thursday to 30 years in prison.
Uzair Paracha, 26, was convicted by the federal district court in Manhattan in November of trying to help a Pakistani member of Al Qaeda, Majid Khan, obtain documents in 2003 to travel to the US from Pakistan.
According to trial testimony and justice department documents, Mr Khan had planned with top Al Qaeda leaders in Pakistan to bomb underground storage tanks at gas stations in Maryland. Mr Paracha impersonated Mr Khan when he had gone to Pakistan.
