Gardener to undergo surgery

LONDON, July 21: Britain's Olympic sprint relay champion Jason Gardener has decided to bring his 2006 season to an end so that he can have an operation on his back.

The “Bath Bullet” is scheduled to see a specialist early on Friday and he expects to undergo surgery which will see him in plaster for up to two months.

“I have to get this sorted out once and for all and get myself ready for the next indoor season,” said Gardener.

The 30-year-old will be bidding for a fourth successive 60 metres title at the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham next March.—AFP
