KARACHI, July 21: The City Government has formed district AIDS task force, like other districts of the province to monitor such cases and create awareness among the masses about this fatal disease.

City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal would be the chairman while DCO would work as vice chairman of the task force.

District Police Officer, Medical Superintendent Civil Hospital, Karachi, Prison Superintendent, representatives of NGOs, DO education, representative of media, social workers, Chairman Health Sub-Committee, district council and EDO health would be its member.

The task force would meet every three month to discuss the agenda containing information received from all the stakeholders.

The task force has been set up with an aim to control the disease and prevent the masses with the coordination of provincial AIDS task force and other related sectors. This task force would participate in various activities of Sindh AIDS Control Program and other departmental activities.

It would help chalk out a comprehensive strategy about controlling the disease. It would also monitor the implementation of AIDS control programme.

Task force would issue guideline on various aspects of AIDS at local level and create the favourable atmosphere for activities. It would also provide technical and financial help to Sindh AIDS Control Programme for training of general physicians and family physicians. The AIDS task force has been formed for a period of one year. –PPI
