KILLINOCHCHI, July 21: A Swedish diplomat failed to persuade the leadership of the Tamil Tigers to drop a demand for the withdrawal of European Union peace monitors who are overseeing the ceasefire between the Sri Lankan government and the LTTE.
Anders Oljelund, the diplomat, met S.P. Thamilchelvam, the political head of the LTTE, in Tiger-controlled northern Killinochchi.
