KARACHI, July 19: The Nishtar Park blast inquiry tribunal, headed by Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffery, Judge Sindh High Court , on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction over production of unauthentic record by the Deputy Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Karachi, Dr Shan-i-Alam about available medical facilities at the CHK.
Resuming the proceedings, the tribunal examined some documents submitted by Dr Shan-i-Alam but expressed dissatisfaction over the authenticity of the same.Later, the tribunal recorded the testimony of deputy director, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical College (JPMC) Dr Seemi Jamali who deposed that after Nishter Park bombing on April 11, a total of 23 bodies, 42 injured and a bodiless head of a man were received at the JPMC.
Soon after Nishter Park blast, she said, a violent mob gathered outside JPMC's casualty, which created disturbance for medical and para medical staff to perform their duties efficiently.
Dr Seemi said a police mobile van had reached outside JMPC emergency ward even before arrival of victims of Nishter Park bombing on April 11. But, police were also unable to control the violent mob, she added.
To a query, she stated that a total 50 beds were available at JPMC casualty ward while eight other departments also operate with the casualty, if needed.
To a question about JPMC disaster management plan (DMP), she said her office at JPMC was operative as control room on April 11.
To another question, she admitted that the concerned authorities failed to put the DMP into proper practice at the JPMC.
She said the arrival of victims at JPMC emergency ward started at about 7:20 p.m on April 11, while Akram Qadri, who also lost his life in the blast, was brought to JPMC at about 7:45 p.m.
To a query, Dr Seemi rejected the arrival of any body part/piece of any Nishter Park bombing victim at JPMC.
Later, the In charge, Accident and Emergency (A&E) ward, CHK, Dr Tariq Ayoobi deposed that the emergency was already declared in CHK on April 11, due to various religious congregations and processions on 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, while total of seven doctors were available in the Accidents and Emergency ward.
He said that 10 dead and 49 injured were brought to 35-bed A&E ward of the CHK and 23 of the injured were discharged the same day.
Complaining about disturbance created by enraged gathering outside the CHK, he said that some violent men barged into A&E ward and manhandled doctors and para-medical staff.
The tribunal put off further proceedings till Thursday.—APP
