SUKKUR, July 18: Police claimed to have arrested over 15 suspects for attending a Thull jirga on May 27, 2006, that decided to hand over five minor girls in marriage to settle a murder dispute.

SHO Dera Sarki Ghulam Hussain Abro said on Tuesday that they had been arrested after raids on different villages near Thull.

He said a heavy contingent of police led by Tangwani TPO Abdul Khaliq Wagan and Kandhkot TPO Saghir Ahmed Mugheri went to villages near Thull, conducted house-to-house search and arrested over 15 suspects on charges of attending the jirga as witnesses.

Some of the suspects were identified as Mughal Nandwani, Alam Banglani, Mureed Banglani, Liaqat Jaffery, Belo Banglani, Fazal Mohammad, Ali Hassan Dahani, Jan Mohammad Banglani, Wazir Nandwani and Usman Banglani.

Police did not disclose the names of others.

The SHO said the arrested persons were under investigation while raids were continue to arrest the remaining suspects.

30 held: The Tangwani police claimed to have arrested 30 people from village Mohammad Ismail Jakhrani, near Tangwani, on Tuesday in connection with the killing of two women on the pretext of karo-kari.

Police declined to tell their names.

Sources said a police party led by Tangwani TPO Abdul Khaliq Wagan had raided the village and recovered the bodies of 30-year-old Mour Zadi, w/o Ahmed Ali Jakhrani, and 20-year-old Rehana, w/o Mohammad Ramzan Jakhrani. They were killed on Monday.

However, on the complaint of Mohammad Ramzan Jakhrani, the police have registered a case against Amanullah Jakhrani and Abdul Rehman Jakhrani.

Police recovered the bodies after 16 hours. The two women were killed and buried at a deserted place..

Two women released: Two more women were released from the central jail-II Sukkur on Tuesday, under a presidential ordinance.

The jail authorities said Phapul, w/o Waris Kalhoro, and Mehnaz, w/o Qabil Kalhoro, had been jailed for a murder.

They belong to village Hussain Kalhoro, district Naushahro Feroze.

After the release, Phapul told newsmen that her husband Waris Kalhoro had been killed by his real brother Laiq Kalhoro, but he had lodged an FIR against me and my relative Mehnaz.
