KARACHI: Tips for angina patients

KARACHI, July 18: People suffering from angina should take at least eight hours of sleep daily, avoid foods rich in fat, increase intake of water and milk, use yogurt and loose their weights in order to spend a healthy life.

This was stated by Dr Hamid Shafqat, a cardiologist, while speaking at a two-day workshop, conducted for doctors at the Sindh Social Security head office here on Tuesday. The training course was attended by doctors from SESSI hospitals of Karachi, Kotri and Hyderabad.

Dr Shafqat urged the doctors to always ask for the case history of patients before starting their treatment. Angina pain escalates by lying down on the floor and in initial stage some kind of pressure is felt over the chest, he added.

The expert said that though angina patients usually complain about pain but in the beginning many of them ignore it as a stomach –related problem. He said patients feeling this pain, uninterruptedly, should not neglect it otherwise it might lead to a heart attack.

Citing symptoms of the disease, Dr Shafqat said that extraordinary sweating, more anger, use of cigarettes, wine and junk food could be the causes of angina.—PPI
