Pillar to post victory for Zargar in feature event

LAHORE, July 17: The handicap advantage enabled long shot Zargar land the feature event at Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Leading all the way home, Zargar with M. Zeeshan up in the saddle, beat favourite Harry Can View by one and three-quarters of a length. My Own Job finished third three-quarters of a length further behind nosing out handicap penalised Pawan to finish fourth.

Another well-backed Bright Star bowed out and finished among also ran. In all eight faced the starter.

A breathtaking performance by Shahid Rehman on Quince when winning the third race in photo-finish verdict was the highlight of the six-event programme gone through to the great enjoyment of race-goers.

The saddle-genius Shahid Rehman fought a neck-to-neck battle with joint favourite Golden Goal (Salah-ud-Din II up) and ended the race locked together at the finishing point.

The magic eye of the camera adjudged Quince the winner.

The competition was so interesting and the fight so tense and close that even those who lost their bets got their money's worth in the shape of a true competition.

Shahid got a spontaneous applause when he returned to the unsaddling enclosure. The contest and the effort of both riders is an example to be emulated by others.

Shahid later rode home Dil Vil owned by Javaid Khalid to crown a brace of winners. Dil Vil 's task was made easier after the last-minute withdrawal of stable 's top most three-year-old star Charismatic.

Yet another remarkable performance came from Syed Parvaiz Hussain Shah owned filly, Simoom, who beat Sundri by a length in the opener. M. Hanif rode three-year-old filly with precise judgment.

Three favourites and a second favourite obliged punters when a card of six races was decided.
