LAHORE, July 17: Town nazims complain that they are not being provided police squad for coping with resistance during the removal of encroachments in their respective areas.

The issue was raised at the District Advisory Committee meeting held here on Monday with District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood in the chair.

DCO Muhammad Ijaz and nazims Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, Mian Javed Ali, Khalid Javed Ghurki, Tariq Sana Bajwa, Sardar Kamal Umar, Yousaf Ahad, Fraz Chaudhry and Sheikh Muhammad Younas attended the meeting.

Iqbal, Samanabad and Wagah Town nazims were especially concerned at the issue.

They were asked to write to police authorities and they would be surely provided the security for making their anti-encroachment drive a success.

Mr Ghurki also said that the big city allowance was not being provided to Wagah Town employees.

The meeting decided to forward a summary to the chief minister for the purpose.

Mr Mahmood was not satisfied with the allocations by town municipal administrations for repair and maintenance of roads in their areas.

He sought apportionment of large sums for the upkeep of roads and revising annual development budgets of town councils accordingly. He also demanded special attention to the restoration of streetlights, especially on busy roads and streets.
