PPP denies deal with govt
PESHAWAR, July 17: The Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians has called upon genuine democratic forces to endorse the charter of democracy, which offers a political solution that makes the armed forces subservient to the civilian government.
Speaking at a function, organised in recognition of services rendered by Dr Mohammad Kamal, founding president of the Pakistan Medical Association, here at a local hotel on Sunday, PPP NWFP president Rahimdad Khan said that the charter of democracy had set the future line of action for democracy-loving forces.
He said the autocratic regime and its political allies were feeling discomfort after the announcement of the charter.
He denied that the PPP or the Pakistan Muslim League would make a deal with President Pervez Musharraf or his hand-picked government.
Mr Khan said it was government-sponsored propaganda to create misunderstanding between the two major political forces of the country.
He said it was a belated effort on the part of Islamabad to pave way for a political deal with the PPP or the PML.
He lauded the welfare services of Dr Kamal and his colleagues for the poor segments of society from the platform of the Bhutto Shaheed Foundation and the PDA.
He said the PPP will extend all-out support to the BSF in its welfare efforts for the masses.
Justice Ibn-i-Ali, former chief justice of the Peshawar High Court, who heads the People’s Education Service of the BSF, said he was not a political man, adding he would like to hear the people instead of speaking to them.
Qazi Mohammad Anwar advocate, who heads BSF’s Legal Aid sector, donated Rs100,000 to the foundation.
He was no more a political activist after his resignation from the Awami National Party but Dr Kamal reactivated him and brought him back to the field.
