KARACHI, July 17: As many as 65 people were robbed of their cars, motorbikes or cellphones in various localities of the metropolis on Monday.
Police said that 19 people were deprived of their cellphones at gunpoint and an equal number of mobile phones were stolen.
They said that a total of 27 vehicles, including 14 cars and 13 motorcycles, were taken away by the bandits in different areas.
One car was hijacked at gunpoint while 13 four-wheelers were stolen. Six motorbikes were taken away at gunpoint and seven others were stolen in different parts of the city.
ARREST: Two policemen were shot at and wounded and a suspect was arrested in an encounter near Banaras Chowk on Monday.
Police said that a man snatched two cellphones from some car occupants at gunpoint and fled. They immediately informed the police, who chased the suspect and located him on the nearby street, where the suspect opened fire. The police returned the fire and arrested the suspect, identified as Ali Rahman. Two mobile phones and a pistol were also recovered from his possession.
During the exchange of fire, Head Constable Mohammad Iqbal and Constable Mohammad Shafi were hit with bullets and shifted to a hospital.
