JWP leaders under ‘house arrest’

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, July 16: Secretary general Agha Shahid Bugti and provincial president Mir Hamayun Khan Marri of the Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) were detained in their homes “till further orders” here on Sunday.

On Saturday night, police and other law-enforcement agencies cordoned off Bugti house at the Fatima Jinnah Road and the residence of Mir Marri at the Sariab Road. Police officials told both the leaders that they could not leave their houses till further orders.

“I have been placed under house arrest as police do not allow me to go outside,” Shahid Bugti told Dawn, adding that Mir Hamayun Khan Marri had also been detained in his house.

“I do not known what is the motive behind this move,” he said, adding that he had not violated any law.

He said the police officials had not given him any written orders regarding his ‘detention’ and people of the area were facing great difficulties due to presence of heavy contingent of law enforcing agencies around his house.

Mir Hamayun Khan Marri, who is son-in-law of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, was also informed that his movement was restricted to his house.
