KARACHI: Muttahida, JI trade allegations over law, order

KARACHI, July 16: Members of the Sindh Assembly belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the Jamaat-i-Islami, in their separate press statements on Sunday, held one another responsible for the recent law and order situation in Karachi.

The MPAs of the MQM, in their joint statement, alleged that 'armed terrorists' of the JI were involved in activities of arson and violence during the burial of Allama Hasan Turabi on July 15.

They said that four of the terrorists were captured and handed over to the Rangers. They claimed that their identity cards showed that their names did not match with the traditional names of those belonging to the Fiqa Jaffaria. They alleged that terrorists involved in the Saturday rampage belonged to the JI task force and claimed that a circular regarding this task force had already been unveiled.

They said that the aim behind the killing of Allama Turabi was to mar the peace of the city so that the provincial and city governments could be made a failure. They demanded of the president, premier, Sindh governor and chief minister to take action against such elements.

Meanwhile, MMA MPAs Nasrullah Shaji, Hameedullah Khan Advocate and Younus Barai in their joint statement said that the peace of Karachi had been put on stake to save the rule in Islamabad. They charged that those responsible for the killing of religious scholars including Allama Turabi and Nishtar Park tragedy martyrs had got the patronage of the rulers.

The MMA leaders charged that the central government just to save their rule had handed over Sindh to killers and extortionists. They said that it was the MMA that was striving to root-out menace of sectarianism from the society.

They vowed that the MMA would continue the struggle of Allama Turabi till the realisation of his dreams and that they would continue to raise their voice so that the killers of Ulema could be taken to the task.—PPI
