ISLAMABAD, July 15: Opposition members belonging to the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy submitted an adjournment motion at the National Assembly secretariat on Saturday, seeking a debate on law and order situation in the country, with particular reference to the killing of Allama Hassan Turabi in a suicide attack in Karachi on Friday.
According to ARD Parliamentary Secretary Izhar Amrohvi, the motion has been signed by 10 members of the People’s Party Parliamentarians and the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz).
In the motion, the opposition members have termed the assassination of Allama Turabi as the latest incident of target killing in the country and expressed fear that the incident could ‘jeopardize the existence of Pakistan.’
The motion states: “This sort of target killing of political and religious leaders and workers has become frequent in the country. The people … are now (feeling) frightened as the government has failed to maintain law and order situation in the country and no clue to any such killings could be traced by the authorities concerned.”
Keeping in view gravity of the situation, the opposition members have asked the speaker to adjourn normal proceedings of the house to discuss the incident.
The motion has been signed by Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sherry Rehman, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Nayyar Bokhari, Naheed Khan, Syed Khurshid Shah and Syed Qurban Ali Shah of the PPP and Khwaja Mohammad Asif and Khwaja Saad Rafiq of the PML-N.
