PSM proposal not received, claims ministry of industries

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, July 15: No proposal for revamping the Pakistan Steel Mills has so far been received from the mill management, therefore, the question of having agreed to the proposal does not arise, clarifies the ministry of industries in response to a Dawn report of July 14.

It said that the (PSM) management would have to present the proposal before its board of directors before submitting it to the ministry.

However, PSM Chairman Gen (retd) Abdul Qayyum, when contacted, said that he had sent a detailed proposal to the ministry.

He added that the Pakistan Steel Mills’ management, experts and engineers felt that the revamping was necessary before privatization of the biggest industrial unit of the country.

However, he said that everything would be done according to the guidance to be given by the Council of Common Interests.
